Alone road accident involving a
Lagos-bound 14-seater commercial bus killed two and injured many
passengers in Odogbolu junction along the Shagamu-Ore Expressway on
Wednesday.
The bus with number plate XB 185 EHR somersaulted on the busy road.
A survivor of the accident, who identified herself simply as Favour, accused the driver of over speeding.
She told our correspondent that the driver lost control of the bus when one of its tyres burst while on top speed.
Another survivor, Fola Akindolani, who had bruises on his hands, said he was more saddened by those who had severe injuries.
According to him, the bus was heading
towards the road median after it lost one of its tyres until one of the
passengers sitting in the front took over the steering from the driver,
adding that this made the bus to somersault.
Favour, who sustained minor injury on her face, said the bus took off from Benin early in the morning for Lagos.
She recalled that the driver was warned several times by passengers to reduce his speed but he was adamant.
When our correspondent arrived the scene
shortly after the accident, the corpses of the two female passengers
were still lying on the road.
A team of Federal Road Safety Corps arrived later and took over the control of traffic that had started building up.
