Former Heartland goalkeeper, Bassey Akpan has emerged as the best goalkeeper in the Vietnam League which qualified him as one of the players of the season.
Akpan who plays for Hoang Anh Gal Lia in the Vietnam League noted that he did his best for the team and was rewarded by the country's League organising body.
He told Goal.com from Owerri that God greatly rewarded him in his first season with the team.
"I want to thank God because without Him I will not be able to do anything. My team has always struggled to end any season on a good note.
"They always fight to escape relegation at the end of every season. But this past season, we played well and also improved on our position on the league table.
"We finished fifth out of 14 clubs and for the past five years, the team has not finished above the 10th position. That was a massive leap for the team.
"I played in 21 matches out of 26 and I did well in majority of the matches. It is my first full season out of the country and I enjoyed myself all through the season which finished in August".
