“Tourism
and hospitality has been seen as a lucrative but abandoned business in
Nigeria”.
This hint was made by the Director Orchid Hotels and suites, Mr. Odega
Jonathan, at an educative session with participants at this years YALDA
conference held in Lagos, Nigeria.
Mr. Odega stressed that before one can succeed in a business, the person
needs to have a leverage passion and obligation, before they can embark on such
business.
“Life is
not all about making money, it is about making impressions”.
According to the Director, “ideas are like dreams or inspirations that
need to be original or relatively so, if they must make the expected impact”.
“There is
something very remarkable about ideas. It is inexhaustible and lies in each one
of us, but usually latent until released”.
Furthermore, he noted that his organization was working out strategies
towards creating a training school that could train foreign chefs on local
Nigerian dishes.
Also speaking in the same vein, Tana Forsuelo, Provost of Wavecrest
College of Catering and Hospitality Management, urged the private sectors to
come together to put things in place and not wait for the government.
The Provost said, “Hotel business in Nigeria does not last, it only
stays for 3-5years and it collapse.”
“There is
good potential in tourism and hospitality, but we have not open our mind to
accept it,” she added.
