Odegbami doubts Eagles

Former Nigeria International, Segun Odegbami said Super Eagles are not good for the 2013 Afcon title.

The Eagles are drawn in Group C alongside title holders, Zambia, Burkina Faso and Ethiopia for the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

Odegbami said the two-time African champions will make an impression at the biennial football showpiece but will not be able to lift the coveted trophy insisting that Zambia will pose a hard nut to crack.

"It will be an interesting Afcon. Zambia will definitely give us their usual serious challenge, they've always been a strong challenge to us through the decades and this time it will be even more serious because they're the defending champions. They're more a team than we are.

"I can see Keshi's efforts trying to build something that looks like a team using the home-based players because he has better access to the players than those who are outside. Those who could have formed a team you need to be able to win competition like Afcon.

"His efforts at using more and more of the local players I think is in the right direction but we have only two months to Afcon.

"Can it be done in two months? My own feeling is no. It's great effort we have good players who are just coming up.

"We're going to make a good impression but I don't think this is the time we can win. I think the winning aspect would come may be the next Afcon after 2013. I wish we could win but I don't think so," he said to supersport.com.

Odegbami said Keshi is on the right path still experimenting on players for the big stage.

"Well, the experimentation continues. The players who qualified us for Afcon 2013 don't look to me like the players that can win it.

"We need slightly better players and so if Keshi is still looking for players then he is not in the wrong direction if Nigerians ask him to win.

"I sincerely believe that with the quality of players on ground, they're good but not good enough to win Afcon.

"Keshi is looking for slightly better players that can make the game a contest for us to think we can win Afcon but with the players we've now I don't see it happening," he said.
