The FCT police said it has arrested suspected fraudster, Tope Akinmoladun, for allegedly defrauding contractors millions of naira over purported contract bids on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education.
Police spokeswoman Doris Englant said yesterday that Akinmoladun claimed to be working with the Federal Government on Private Public Partnership (PPP) basis for the construction of two blocks of 12 classrooms for primary and secondary schools in the 774 local government areas nationwide.
Englant said the suspect’s firm, Staprotech Promotions Limited located at Lagos House in Central Business District Abuja, advertised for request for tender over the projects.
She said bidders paid non-refundable sums between N20,000 and N50,000.
However, a police source said a “delegation from the education ministry has briefed the police following a letter to the ministry demanding explanation on the matter. The ministry has denied asking the suspect to work on its behalf.”
Akinmoladun, was arrested on December 25 in Gwagwalada following complaints by about five contractors at the Central Police Station, Abuja. England said the complainants claimed that they paid monies for the bidding in 2011 and since then, the contracts were not awarded.
FCT Police Commissioner, Adenrele Shinaba, said “the suspect will be charged to court after investigation.”
