My House Hunt Wahala by Nathan Nathaniel

Lagos is regarded as the Centre of Excellence and this is due to the high level of business growth in the state and high number of people moving from various states just to have a feel of the industrialization in the state. In some quarters, Lagos is regarded as ‘A No Man’s Land,’ and this is because it is able to habour all tribes. #myhousehuntwahala

Not everyone living in Lagos is able to get that dream job they have always desired but the environment has been very conducive for some to start a lucrative business just to make ends meet. One of the key things that a business executive will complain about is government policies which sometimes do not favour even those selling by the roadside. #myhousehuntwahala

One cannot just come to Lagos and get a job so easily without having an accommodation and this is where the real hustle begins. All depending on the kind of house one is looking for, the price and location is still very much important considering the source of the money. #myhousehuntwahala

Everyone sure have various house hunt wahala but going personal, able to locate an apartment for myself was rather not an easy one as I went through some agents who asked me to register with the sum of N1000 before they can begin the search. Just leaving school where I was shuttling between class and a job I newly got with a media house was not an easy task but that determination with God, I was able to scale through and do well in my studies till I graduated. Not being able to go for my National Youth Service because I needed money, I had to still maintain my job and with the little I was earning, I had to manage and save to be able to get my apartment. #myhousehuntwahala

My choice of apartment was a room self-contain and since I wasn’t able to get a room self-contain, a friend of mine told me that I could get a room and parlour self -contain for N120,000 as annual payment, and when I include agent and agreement, everything was N200,000. So I opted for it precisely at Giwa, Oke Aro, in Ogun state. First, raising the money was not easy as a good friend of mine dedicated her school fees for me to get the place which I later refunded and when I was able to make the payment for the house, I could still not pack in at the time I got the apartment which was October, 15th, 2015 until December 31st, 2015, all because of transport to move my little things from where I was squatting with a friend at Ogba. #myhousehuntwahala

Mind you, before settling for this current apartment, I had been to some other places like Oko Oba, in Agege, Okera at Ogba and an estate at Fagba, but the houses were like the sizes of shops and to crown it all, the prices were too expensive ranging from N200,000 per annum to N350,000 and I asked myself, ‘how much is my take home pay,’? So lucky that I was not scammered by these said house agents as they will gladly collect the money from their prospects and end up giving them an apartment that has been paid for by another person. #myhousehuntwahala

Though where I stay currently might be nice, but my landlord called a meeting to tell us that we have to pay for pumping machine repair every month, aside security and PHCN bill and now the real expenses has just taken place as I await October 15th, 2016 on how to raise my rent even when I am yet to put the house in other because all my expenses goes on transportation to office. #myhousehuntwahala
