The Raymond Dokpesi Centre for Media Development has instituted cash
award for outstanding mass communication students in tertiary
institutions.This was made known by the groups, coordinator, Mr.
Christopher Ebutse, in a press conference to herald its 4th Annual
conference in Lagos.
He said the award was aimed at promoting media
through breeding dedicated youths to fight against corruption and
gaining relevance for the media.
According to the AIT chairman, “We have instituted the
Raymond Dokpesi Cash Award for the best graduating students for some
major institutions. It has started from the Nigerian Institute of
Journalism and we are extending it to other schools like University of
Ibadan, University of Benin, University of Lagos and some polytechnics
in the country. We will also assist some indigent students this year to
go to school.
“The Centre is interested in the protection of the
media. Having known that the media have a key role in the evaluation of
government activities, students of mass communication, therefore serves
as a tool to fight against corruption and gaining relevance for rule of
law.”
Furthermore, he added that the building of a nation should enhance and
bridge intellectual capacity, which makes it necessary for the students
to be involved.
“To build the society, the students must be carried
along. Students must be very creative and have high intellect for the
training in other for them to have a place for themselves in the market.
Scholars must write books that is significant in the society to build
theses students intellectually and enhance value in the society,” he
said.
